Phone Wi-Fi will not turn on and the switch is grey: what to do

If the Wi-Fi switch will not turn on or stays grey, restart the phone and reset network settings first. If these do not help, the problem is most likely the phone’s Wi-Fi section or board; diagnosis confirms it.

  1. Restart. Turn the phone off and on.
  2. Try airplane mode. Turn it on and off, then turn Wi-Fi on again.
  3. Reset network settings. iPhone: Settings › General › Transfer or Reset › Reset › Reset Network Settings; Android: Settings › System › Reset options.
  4. Update. Install any pending software update.
