Contacts deleted: how can I get them back?

Deleted contacts usually come back from a cloud copy. On iPhone, use “Restore Contacts” under Data Recovery on iCloud.com; on Android, use “Undo changes” in Google Contacts. If the contacts were never synced to a cloud or a backup, getting them back is usually not possible.
