How to turn on dark mode on your phone

To make your phone’s background black, turn on dark mode: on iPhone go to Settings › Display & Brightness › Dark, on Android Settings › Display › Dark theme. With the Automatic option it switches on in the evening. If the screen turned black and white by mistake, a colour filter or greyscale in accessibility is on.

Dark mode does not remove colours. If the whole screen is grey, turn off Colour Filters in Accessibility › Display & Text Size on iPhone, or colour correction or greyscale in Accessibility on Android.
