Why does the iPhone audio IC fail? Symptoms and repair

On an iPhone, the audio IC is the chip that manages speaker, microphone and headphone sound. A drop, the phone bending or liquid contact can damage this chip or its solder joints.   • The speaker button looks greyed out during calls.
