Touch screen moving by itself: how to fix ghost touch

A touch screen tapping or scrolling by itself is called “ghost touch”. Dirt, moisture, a lifted screen protector and an unsuitable charger can cause it; if it continues once these are ruled out, the screen most likely needs replacing. Back up your data before the repair.

01Step-by-step checks

  1. Remove the case and protector. A tight case or a lifted protector can press on the screen.
  2. Clean the screen. Wipe it with a dry, soft cloth; dry your hands if they are wet.
  3. Unplug it. If it only happens while charging, try another charger.
  4. Restart and update. A frozen app can also move the screen.
  5. Safe mode on Android. If the problem stops in safe mode, an installed app is the cause.
