- First check whether there is a progress bar on the screen.
- A moving bar means an update or transfer is in progress.
- Keep the phone on charge during the process.
- If the bar never moves, force restart and try with a computer.
- Do not choose Restore if you have no backup.
01What do you see on the screen?
| Screen | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Logo with a moving bar | An update, restore or data transfer is in progress | Plug it in and wait |
| Logo with a bar that has stopped for a long time | The process may be stuck | Force restart, then try with a computer |
| Logo without a bar | Start-up cannot complete | Force restart; if it continues, connect to a computer |
| Flashing logo | A start-up loop | Move on to the recovery mode steps |
02What can leave the logo stuck
- The battery running out or the cable coming out during an update.
- Storage being almost completely full.
- A data transfer from an old iPhone being interrupted.
- It starting after a drop, liquid contact or a repair; in that case hardware is more likely.

- Force restart. On iPhone 8 and later, press and release volume up, then volume down, then hold the side button until the logo appears.
