Phone touch screen not working after water: what to do

If the touch screen stops working after water got in, turn the phone off and do not charge it; moisture disturbs touch and can short the board. Touch sometimes recovers once the phone is dry; if not, the screen and board should be checked for liquid damage.

01What to do in the first half hour

  1. Turn it off. If the phone is on, turn it off at once.
  2. Do not charge. Current on a wet board can short it.
  3. Remove parts. Take out the case, SIM tray and memory card.
  4. Dry the outside. Wipe it with a soft cloth; do not poke anything into the ports.
  5. Bring it in. The sooner it is checked, the less corrosion there is.
