Water spilled on the phone and callers cannot hear me: what about the microphones?

If callers cannot hear you after water spilled on your phone, or voice recordings are silent, water may have filled the microphone holes. Leave the phone to dry with the holes facing down and do not charge it. Once dry, a voice recording and a speakerphone call show which microphone is affected.

01Phones have more than one microphone

Most phones have microphones at the bottom (next to the charging port), at the top and next to the camera. Normal calls mainly use the bottom one, while speakerphone calls and video recording may use the others. Water usually fills the small bottom holes.

03Drying steps

  1. Switch off and dry. Wipe the outside with a soft cloth.
  2. Turn the holes down. Leave it in an airy place.
  3. Do not charge. Do not connect a cable until the port is dry.
  4. Test. Once dry, run the tests above.
