- How to get photos off a phone that will not turn on: check the cloud firstIf your phone will not turn on, your photos may already be backed up elsewhere: with iCloud Photos on iPhone or Google Photos on Android, you can reach them from a computer. If there is a memory card, read it in another device. If they are not in the cloud, the phone has to start again to reach them.
- Phone getting weak signal: measure it and find the causeSignal bars do not always tell the truth; on Android phones you can see signal strength in dBm in the SIM status section of settings. First compare with another phone in the same place, then check the network type and network settings. If it started after a drop, the antenna should be checked.
- Aftermarket versus original (OEM) screens: why the terms get confusingSellers use the word “OEM” in different ways: some mean the original part, others a compatible copy. So when buying a screen, look at concrete facts rather than labels: the panel type, whether features such as the fingerprint sensor and True Tone on iPhone will work, and what the invoice says.
- Phone screen qualities: ranking screen types by closeness to the originalRanking replacement screens by how close they are to the original makes the choice easier: original, refurbished, OEM OLED and OEM LCD. The further from the original, the more brightness, colour, fingerprint support and battery use can change. Market names vary from seller to seller.
- What to watch for in a screen replacement: before, during and afterBeing happy with a screen replacement comes down to asking a few questions at three stages. Before, find out which part is broken and what type of screen will be fitted; during, make sure the option you approved is fitted; at collection, test touch, colour and sensors.
- How to transfer contacts from iPhone to iPhoneThe easiest way to move your contacts to a new iPhone is iCloud Contacts sync: if both phones use the same Apple Account, the contacts appear by themselves. If you are setting up a new iPhone, Quick Start moves all your data at once.
- Is there an iPhone test menu? Field Test code and hardware checksiPhone has no test menu that checks the screen, sound and sensors one by one. The *3001#12345#* code only opens Field Test mode and shows network information. To check the hardware, test the screen, sound and sensors separately.
- Is there a back button on iPhone? Ways to go backiPhone has no fixed back button; to go back, swipe right from the left edge of the screen or tap the back link at the top left. You can also create your own shortcut with Back Tap or AssistiveTouch; no extra app is needed.
- Forgot your iPhone passcode: unlocking it the legal wayThere is no safe, legal way to “crack” an iPhone passcode; with a forgotten passcode, the iPhone is erased and set up again. Use “Forgot Passcode?” on the lock screen or recovery mode with a computer. Erasing deletes data; your data comes back from a backup. Setup needs your Apple Account password.
- How to run a screen test on a Samsung phoneOn many Samsung phones, typing *#0*# in the Phone app opens a test menu. The red, green, blue and black tests show dead pixels, spots and lines; the touch test shows areas that do not respond. The code does not work on some models; Samsung Members diagnostics can be used instead.
- Xiaomi notifications not working: how to fix itLate or missing notifications on Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones are usually caused by battery saver stopping the app in the background. Turning on the app’s notification permission, setting battery saver to “No restrictions” and allowing autostart usually fix it.
- Where is the iPhone made? The iPhone is designed by Apple in California, USA. It is mostly assembled in China by contract manufacturers; some models are also assembled in India. Parts such as the screen, chips, cameras and battery come from makers in different countries. The country of assembly is printed on the back of the box.

- Is there an iPhone touch test code? Testing without oneAn iPhone has no touch test code; codes such as *3001#12345#* only show network information. You can test touch without a code: on the Home Screen, drag an app icon slowly over every part of the screen, or draw in Notes. If the icon drops or the line breaks, that area is not responding.
- How to change your Gmail password on iPhoneYour Gmail password belongs to your Google account, not your iPhone. In the Gmail app, tap your profile picture and go to “Manage your Google Account” › Security › Password; the Google Account page in Safari does the same. After the change, you need to sign in again in iPhone Mail.
- Changing and viewing a Wi-Fi password on iPhoneA Wi-Fi password is changed on the router’s admin page or your internet provider’s app, not on the iPhone. After the change, go to Settings › Wi-Fi, tap the network’s info icon, choose “Forget This Network” and rejoin with the new password. You can view the saved password on the same screen with Face ID.
- What is root, and can an iPhone be rooted?Rooting gives administrator-level access to an Android phone’s system files; the iPhone equivalent is jailbreaking. These open the phone to security holes and can stop apps like banking from working, cause update problems and even stop the phone from starting. We do not recommend them.
- How to deactivate an Instagram account on iPhoneTo deactivate your Instagram account on iPhone, go to your profile in the app and follow menu › Accounts Centre › Personal details › Account ownership and control › Deactivation or deletion. A deactivated account comes back when you log in again. Permanent deletion becomes irreversible; download your information first.

- How to check your Apple warrantyYou check your Apple warranty with the serial number on Apple’s coverage page (checkcoverage.apple.com). On iPhone the serial number and coverage are in Settings › General › About; it is also printed on the box. The warranty covers manufacturing faults, not accidental damage such as drops or liquid.
